Mabanaft celebrates delivery of first SAF cargo to Oslo

2020 marks Mabanaft’s initial steps into supplying Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with our first SAF cargo arriving in Oslo on the 8th of December.

We have been developing a new supply chain for aviation fuel in Norway and are currently supplying airlines operating at Oslo Gardermoen Airport.

Norway is the first European country to mandate the use of SAF in fuel consumed by airlines in the country; a minimum of 0.5% of all fuel uplifted by airlines in Norway must be SAF. It is permissible to blend up to 50% neat SAF into conventional Jet Fuel and still meet the product’s stringent specifications, something we have taken advantage of with this first import of SAF.

Our Aviation Manager Toby Simmons said: “This important first step allows us to prove the efficiency of our sustainable fuel supply chain and demonstrates our ability to meet future increases for SAF as mandated by the Norwegian Government, and indeed other countries which will likely follow with their own mandates.

“SAF has been identified as a key element in helping reduce emissions. This chimes with Mabanaft’s long-term objective of making its activities as safe and environmentally friendly as possible. We are now exploring opportunities to increase our supply of  SAF to other customers in Europe.”
